Camp Monkey Business 17 (Almost legal)

Camp Monkey Business (CMB) is an annual event held every year by a group of
friends, artists, and musicians. The purpose of CMB is to create an environment
where people are free to express themselves through art, music, and dancing.
This is an outdoor event. We strongly advise you to bring warm clothing,
blankets, flashlights, t.p., camp chairs, tents, sleeping bags, pillows, water, and snacks.

Donations
Because Monkey Business is not a commercial event, we pay for our time at Abrams creek by
donations from our friends. A $65 donation is requested so that we can cover the cost of
the camp reservation. This year we'll be basing reservations on donations.So please donate early so that we can cover the cost of the reservation.

A donation gets you a spot on a wood plank next to a burning monkey, a cabin or tipi on a first come first serve basis or plenty of space to set up your tent.

Camp Monkey Business 17 begins Friday, July 22, 2011 and is open until 2:00 Pm,
Sunday, July 24, 2011.
We hope that everyone seriously considers arriving Friday. There's something special about being
present for Friday's activities--you get to catch up with old friends, make new ones, decorate your
cabin, tipi or tent, help decorate the main area, hear extra tunes, and have an early night so that you can enjoy
Saturday's activities. In addition to our annual Saturday night monkey burn,
there is swimming, volleyball and horse shoes on Saturday afternoon and a potluck dinner for Saturday night. So if you're interested in

What to Bring
Yourself and a friend! And definitely bring a flash light, yo, Tent, sleeping bags and anything else you'll need to camp!
Also bring mountain bikes, art installations, funky clothes, a free spirit, decorations, inner tubes and definitely a bathing suit, food & beverages. Tasty beverages must be in a cup--just bring a durable
plastic cup or mug from home, which you can use throughout the event. Remember to leave no trace.
Cabins & Facilities
Sleeping cabins are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Abrams Creek unlike Prince William Forest has a limited supply of cabins (10) and Tipis (2) and a limited amount of room in the Main Lodge (20).
We ask that the Main lodge be reserved for families with children, and expectant mothers. Additionally most of the cabins have sleeping for four or more people. We strongly encourage people to group up and sleep at least four people in each cabin. You all know each other, you all end up hanging out in each others cabins anyway. Why not just share a cabin. Otherwise There is plenty of room for tents- yes tents. For those of you who remember the first Monkey business parties all we had were tents.
We didn't need no stinking cabins.
Open Tables
If you'd like to spin, feel free to bring your records and jump in on any of the open slots. The turntables are
available for everybody from early Saturday morning until 7 p.m. We only ask that you please limit yourself
to an hour at most if others are waiting to spin.
The Rules
Camp Monkey Business 17 takes place at Abrams CreekPrivate Property;
Drugs and alcohol are strictly forbidden on Abrams Creek property. The proprietor of the campground has been kind
enough to allow us the use of his property, so let's not do anything that'd jeopardize that
relationship. Also, keep in mind CMB is a non-commercial event and you're responsible for yourself and your actions.
A larger list of cautions and requests Please note that the owner of Abrams creek has been kind enough to agree to lifting the quiet hours restrictions since we will be reserving the entire campground.
Clean Up
Clean up is simple: pack it in, pack it out. You're responsible for cleaning up your cabin and helping with the
general clean up of the common areas, Cabins, tipis and tent sites.
Clean up is easy if everyone chips in. Please remember that this event is for our friends, by our friends. So when
you leave trash behind, you're expecting your friends to clean it up for you. As mentioned above, clean up will
start at 11 a.m. on Sunday. One of the biggest problems we've had in the past is that there's entirely too much
food and drinks left. So please remove all of your food and drinks by noon on Sunday.
It's your responsibility to throw away what you no longer want. Don't leave it for others to dispose of for you.
Any items left anywhere (including food and drinks) after noon on Sunday will be donated to Kip. To minimize the amount of trash we ask that you bring your own personalized cups.
We won't be providing disposable plastic cups because they tend to be abandoned and then quickly replaced.
Remember to leave no trace.
Directions
From DC area via Rt. 66 / I-81 / Rt. 50: (150 miles)
Take Rt. 66 West all the way to I-81
Take I-81 North to exit 310 (10 miles) which is 37 N. / 50 W Romney (bear left at light off exit ramp).
After several miles on Rt. 37, exit onto Rt. 50 (again, bear left at light off exit ramp).
Stay on Rt. 50 for 68 miles (past Romney, past the exit for 220 N. to Keyser) until you pass Rt. 42 North (to Elk Garden -- don't turn).
Proceed on Rt. 50 for 4.7 more miles and you will come to a concrete bridge that crosses Abram's Creek (Note the blue reflective campground symbol signs just before the entrance to the campground);
turn right onto gravel road just before the bridge -- you will see a 6'x12' Abram's Creek Campground billboard with yellow background.
(If you end up in the town of Mt. Storm, you've gone about 3 miles too far)
**Proceed along main gravel road past the small white house and turn left at the 2nd home (Lodge House) for campground self-serve Check-In and Registration, located on the front porch of the Lodge House.
Proceed along the main gravel road to get to the campsites and cabins. Campground brochures / maps / and general information are located at the Lodge House Registraton kiosk.
Before or after looking around, Check in at the Registration Kiosk at the Lodge House. Security confirms payments and registrations nightly.
From Points North of DC or from Baltimore (Rockville, MD and North):
Take interstate 270 to 70 and proceed all the way to National Highway 68 (From Baltimore simply get on 70 West).
Take National Highway 68 to Cumberland and take 220 South through the town of Keyser to fork in road just past Walmart at end of Keyser -- at fork keep to right on 972 South to join Rt. 50W in about 2 miles.
Turn right onto Rt. 50 (West) and proceed on Rt. 50 until you pass Rt. 42 North (about 10 minutes up the mountain -- dont' turn)
Continue on Rt. 50 for 4.7 more miles and you will come to a concrete bridge that crosses Abram's Creek (Note the blue reflective campground symbol signs just before the entrance to the campground);
